Yes, We Are Getting Older!
NOVEMBER 2011
November is such a fantastic month for family fun. All the preparation, then the travel and then the being together and, then, the revelation that we are, indeed, all getting older.
According to the U.S. Administration on Aging, the population of Americans older than 65 years is expected to double to about 71 million by 2040. The population of Americans older than 85 years is expected to increase to 9.6 million by 2030.
The unique dental needs and challenges of senior adults, includes a vital connection between a healthy body and a healthy mouth. Teeth are important for speaking, smiling, chewing and appearance and with regular dental visits and overall healthy habits, whether with natural teeth, implants or dentures, a person's oral health can be a positive influence on a healthy life. In the long run, a dentist can become a partner in the fight against disease including cancer, can monitor the oral effects of common medications and can forecast benchmarks of concern.
Simply put, if someone wants to feel good, stay healthy, and look great throughout life, they have to have a healthy mouth. By adopting healthy oral habits at home, making smart choices about diet and lifestyle, and seeking regular dental care, anyone can help their teeth last a lifetime. Thankfully, for most of us, the choices are ours to make.
Happy Thanksgiving to all!
